Biography:

Hi my name’s Jacob Porter and I am a digital media innovations major at Texas State. I specialize in photographic media design with developing skills in video and audio. I’ve always been the type to have determination to do whatever is in front of me. Even from high school, all of my friends had graduated and I was feeling very lonely at school. So I took it upon myself to get into an early graduation program and graduated within three weeks of beginning my senior year. From there I began studying sociology at Victoria College for a semester to wait for leases in San Marcos to roll around and then eventually moved here. I studied sociology for nearly three years, so not only is it my minor, I find myself to be quite proficient in it as well. I now however have found my real passion in digital media innovations. I feel it is tailored to me specifically as it’s almost exactly the thing I could see myself doing. 

I have built quite the background in digital media innovations purely going through college. In my classes I’ve had to do many things, for example I have created half a magazine, a newsletter, a podcast, as well as various other graphical design works. I have also built an understanding of algorithms I’ll have to take note of. These are the ways in which different social media sites decide what to show the most people. After college, I hope to find a job creating media at a large company like ESPN. I have a few people I know that are affiliated with it and I truly feel like that would almost be a dream come true. As I’ve always been a big sports fan who used to have dreams of playing in the NBA. So being able to be that close to doing something I enjoy would likely be the best possible job I could ask for. If not though, I hope to find success with another company in regards to something I enjoy, maybe video games, who knows, but that’s the magic of it, I have such a broad range with this major. I am proud of being in digital media innovations!
